Create and Maintain Learners Curriculum
You can create or edit a learner's curriculum at the supervisor, account, division or company level. A learner's curriculum defines the learning goal of the person in your organization. A learner's curriculum can be built using jobs (most preferred), skillsets, and training items (least preferred).
How to Build or Edit Learners Curriculum
Procedure 1 - Build or Edit Curriculum for one Learner
Follow these steps to build a new curriculum for a learner or to add several curriculum items (jobs, skillsets or training items) to a learner's curriculum:

If you have access to multiple divisions or companies, select the division or company where the learner is located. |
||||||||
3 |
Select the learner whose curriculum you wish to build or edit. |

A default Due Date of one month in the future is selected on the left. This due date applies to all items selected in step 7. Note: Entering due date is mandatory. If you want to allow more time for the training being assigned, change the due date. Any item less than 60 days will be visible on the learner's Frontline Desktop under the Training tab. |
||||||||
10 |
Modify Attempts Allowed, if desired. These apply to any test attempts for tests attached to any training item in the selected curriculum items. |
||||||||
11 |
Select Result: The selected jobs, skillsets or training items are added to the learner's curriculum. |
Procedure 2 - Add a Job, Skillset, or Training item to many Learners

Select Result: The selected job, skillset or training item is added to the learners' curriculums. |
How to Add a Library Course to a Learner's Curriculum
Frontline's public course library contains many generic on-line courses in categories such as Health, Safety, Environment, OSHA Ten series, Five-Minute Safety, Legal Compliance, Department of Transportation (DOT) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations, Chemical/Material Hazards and Process Operations. A few of these courses are available in Spanish also. You can use these courses to go live quickly, or add these courses on an on-going basis to a your learners' curriculums.
The Public Library courses are identified by training item types of WBT (Web based training) and SCORM. The SCORM is the newer, interactive format of many Public Library courses. However SCORM courses cannot be edited. A WBT course can be copied and edited (localized) using the built-in authoring tool.
Frontline is routinely updated with new courses, so always check the Public Library before creating a new course from scratch. The minimum permission needed to perform this task is Division Admin.
Best Practice
Add a library course to a new or existing skillset, instead of assigning it directly to learners. Placing training items in skillsets gives you the flexibility to add new courses in the future, and allows you to control the refresher frequency by using the retest periods in skillsets. If you create a new skillset, the best practice is to add the skillset to jobs that have been assigned to learners.
Before you Begin
Follow these steps to find the course, and create and assign the skillset to the learners.
Step |
Action |
1 |
Browse the Public Library and find the courses you would like to assign. You can use the library search to find courses of interest. You should play the course to make sure that its content and attached test meets your requirements. |
2 |
If you want to add the course to a new skillset, create the skillset. |
3 |
Do you want to add the new skillset to a job that has already been assigned to learners? If Yes, add Skillsets or Training Items to a Job. If No, assign the skillset directly to learners. |
Procedure
Follow these steps to add a Public Library course to a skillset:
Step |
Action |
1 |
Select Curriculum > Skillsets > (Organization level, if shown) from the LMS module menu. |
2 |
If you have access to multiple divisions or companies, select the division or company where the skillset is located. |
3 |
Find the skillset to which you want to add the library course. |
4 |
Select the Components tab. Result: The existing training item components of the skillset are shown, if any. |
5 |
Select |
6 |
Select the Public Library radio button. Enter the Training Item title, Item Code, Item Type (WBT or SCORM) and/or Subject Area as search criteria. You may use % as a wildcard. |
7 |
Select Result: A list of training items (Public Library courses) matching the search criteria is displayed. |
8 |
Select the box next to the training items you wish to select. |
9 |
A default Due Date of one month in the future is selected on the left. Complete fields Retest Period, Period Due from Assignment, and Enforce, if desired. If the training item selected is optional, uncheck Mandatory. Important: These field values apply to all the training item(s) selected in step 8. They are critical in managing learners' curriculums. If you selected more than one training item, and want different values for the selected training items, do not enter any values here. An alternate method is shown in steps 11 - 12 below. |
10 |
Select Result: The training item(s) are added as components of the selected skillset. |
11 |
If you want to see all the training items that are in the selected skillset in a table view, select Change. This also allows you to add or edit the values entered in step 9. Result: All training items that are components of the skillset are displayed. |
12 |
Add or change Due Date, Retest Period, Period Due from Assignment or Enforce. If some training items are optional uncheck Mandatory. Select |
Alternate Method
If you have only a few learners to whom you want assign different Public Library courses, you can add them one person at a time. This is however not a good long term solution as you lose the flexibility and convenience provided by features in skillsets.
How to Set up Refresher Training
One of the Frontline's most powerful features is the automated refresher training. You can configure a learner's curriculum such that the learner will be reassigned training at whatever interval you specify. This means you only have to configure the curriculum just once. All refresher training is automatically assigned by Frontline.
Process
This table describes the refresher training process.
Stage |
Description |
1 |
The administrator sets up refresher training using one of the procedures below. |
2 |
The learner completes the training and gets credit for it. |
3 |
Frontline immediately reassigns the refresher training with a new due date, based on the retest period. Example: If the training item has a retest period of 24 months, the new due date will be 24 months from the date the learner was credited for the training. |
4 |
When the new due date approaches, Frontline adds the assignment to the learner's Frontline Desktop's Training tab, and notifies the learner of the assignment by e-mail. |
5 |
The learner logs on to Frontline and completes the refresher training. |
Create refresher training using the same training content
Assigning the same training content, in its most recent revision and edit number, for the refresher training is the easiest and most commonly used option.
You must have a system code of at least Division Admin to perform this task.
If the learner's curriculum uses a skillset, then use the skillset component form to enter a Retest Period. If the curriculum contains the training item assigned directly without a skillset, then use the training item form to enter the retest period.
Creating refresher training using different training content
Use this procedure when the content for refresher training is different than the content for the initial training.
In this procedure, the initial training item is set up as a pre-requisite to the refresher training. This will prevent anyone from taking the refresher training without first completing the initial training. It is also recommended that both the initial training and refresher training be components of the same skillset, and that your learners be assigned this training using this skillset.
Step |
Action |
1 |
Create a new training item with the content for the initial training. Leave the Retest Period field blank. |
2 |
Create another new training item with the content for the refresher training. |
3 |
Select the Pre-Requisites tab. |
4 |
Select |
5 |
Enter
search criteria and select Select
the training item and select |
6 |
Create a skillset that will contain this training. |
7 |
Add initial and refresher training items created in steps 1 and 2 as components of the skillset with default due dates of 1 month. |
8 |
For the new skillset created, click Components > Change to see both the initial training item and the refresher training item components in one table. For the refresher Training Item, enter the following:
Select |
9 |
Assign the skillset to your learners with default due date of 1 month (or longer if necessary). Result: The initial training will be assigned on the date entered. The first refresher training will be due according to the period due from assignment and subsequent refresher training will be due using the retest period entered in step 8. |
10 |
You can assign this skillset to future employees, or add additional components to the skillset. |
