Create and Maintain Test

Please read Author - About Tests before creating or editing your first test. Tests must be attached to a training item. One test can be attached to many training items, but each training item can only have one test. The Test Required box must be checked in the training item form for a test to be delivered. The minimum permission needed to perform this task is Division Author.

Note: If you do not have time to create a detailed test, please consider creating a one-question test (statement of understanding).

How to Create One Question Test (Statement of Understanding)

A one-question test is useful for legal compliance training, or for content for which you do not have time to create a detailed content-specific test. You can also use such tests for off-line training. It is recommended that you use a single True/False or Yes/No question, with the question phrased as follows:

  • I have completed reviewing the material presented, and I fully understand it.
  • I have read and understand the information provided in this training topic. I understand my responsibilities in relation to this topic.
  • If you have read and understand the training information, select "YES". If you do not understand or have a question about the training information check "NO", and contact your manager.
  • I have read and understood this training and my job responsibilities as it pertains to this topic. If I had any questions on the content of this training or my job responsibilities, I successfully addressed them with my supervisor.
  • I have attended the workshop I was signed up for. By clicking yes below, I certify that I was considered qualified by the instructor of the workshop.

You can also phrase the question in several lines or paragraphs that contain the legal confirmation you want to obtain from the learners. For answer choices, True/False or Yes/No are shown by default. You can edit each one as shown in the examples below:

  • Yes. I certify that the above statement is true and correct.
  • No. More information or clarification is needed. I will review the material again, or contact the appropriate personnel prior to testing again.

If you want the learners to be able to enter exception text for a legal confirmation, choose the question type Multiple Choice with Essay. This question type will force a learner to explain their answer choice if correct or incorrect answer is selected.

To create a one-question test, complete Parts 1 - 4 above, with minimal information in the test form.

As any test can be attached to multiple training items, you can use the same test for other training items in your division when needed. The training items tab for a test shows the training items that are currently attached to the test. To attach new training items to this test, select  and search for training items. You can search by Item TypeDOC or PRC if you want to attach this test to all documents that currently do not have a test attached. As you create content-specific test for a training item, you can delete the training item from this list (which detaches the training item from this test), and attach to your new content-specific test.

Create a Link in a Microsoft Office Document to Launch a Test

Administrators can use your existing Microsoft Office files as training content by creating DOC or PRC type training items. To confirm a learner 's understanding of the content, you can also create tests and attach to these training items. If you want to force learners to open the training content before testing, uncheck Allow Test-out in the training item form and add the following link near the bottom of a file in the PDF file format or a Microsoft Office file saved as a PDF file:

Take Test Now

You can rephrase and format the phrase "Take Test Now" to your liking, but the hyperlink must point to:

  • https://Your Frontline site address/TakeTestNow.htm

Right-click Take Test Now, select hyperlink properties and replace "Your Frontline site address" in the URL field with the actual address of your Frontline site.

With allow test-out unchecked, the only way for learners to get credit for this training is to click this link near the bottom of the PDF file, which requires them to scroll through the content. The test can then verify the learner's understanding of the content.

Alternately, you can create a one question (statement of understanding) test attached to many documents.

Note: The Microsoft Office file must be saved as PDF for the link above to work.
