About Assessments
Assessments allow an assessor to test a learner's proficiency by observation. An assessment can only be conducted by an assessor.
Authors create assessments using the Frontline authoring tool. An assessment includes questions and instructions to the assessor for each question. Instructions to the assessor may include how to deliver the question, how and what to observe in the learner performance for that question and what is considered competent.
Note: Frontline LMS module does not grade assessments or assessment questions automatically. The assessor grades each question and signs off on the assessment.
Reporting
The Assessment Details report, found under Reports > Training, allows you to see the completed assessments of a learner with assessor grading and comments for each question.
Assessment Process
Stage |
Description |
1 |
The administrator assigns an assessment to a learner. |
2 |
The learner clicks on the assessment title on their Frontline Desktop. |
3 |
Frontline displays the name of the assessor and instructs the learner that the assessor must be present to begin the assessment. When the assessment is attached to a job, the names of the people holding the job are displayed, and learner can choose an assessor from this list. |
4 |
The assessor enters his or her user ID and password. |
5 |
The learner or assessor completes the answer block for a question. |
6 |
The assessor enters comments and selects Competent or Not Competent for each assessment question. |
7 |
When a question is complete, the assessor saves it. Note: An assessment question can be skipped and completed later. A previously completed question can be repeated until the final sign-off. This allows an assessment to be conducted over a period of time. |
8 |
Steps 4 though 7 are repeated until the assessor marks all questions competent or not competent and saves them. |
9 |
The learner and assessor sign off on the assessment. |
10 |
Frontline displays the % competent score and gives the learner credit for the assessment by writing a record with result as Taken. |
Create an Assessment
You can create an assessment from the Author > Assessment menu item. Creating an assessment is similar to creating a test.
An assessment can be attached to a new or existing training item. You can attach it to a training item such as a DOC, WBT or CBT, and assign it to learners by adding it to a skillset. The learner can review the content, and then contact the assessor to conduct the assessment. If there is no online content, you can attach the assessment to a PTE training item. That way, the learner will see only the assessment.
When you create an assessment, you must choose the assessor. The assessor can be a person or a job. If you choose a job, any person active in the job can be the assessor. One assessment can be attached to multiple training items. A different assessor or job can be designated for each training item.
